^11(A)But Mary was standing outside the tomb, weeping; so as she wept, she ^(B)stooped to look into the tomb; ¹²and she *saw ^(C)two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying. ¹³And they *said to her, “^(D)Woman, why are you weeping?” She *said to them, “Because ^(E)they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they put Him.” ¹⁴When she had said this, she turned around and *^(F)saw Jesus standing there, and yet she ^(G)did not know that it was Jesus. ¹⁵Jesus *said to her, “^(H)Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Thinking that He was the gardener, she *said to Him, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you put Him, and I will take Him away.” ¹⁶Jesus *said to her, “Mary!” She turned and *said to Him ^(I)in ^[a]Hebrew, “^(J)Rabboni!” (which means, Teacher). ¹⁷Jesus *said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to ^(K)My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ^(L)ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’” ^18(M)Mary Magdalene *came and ^(N)announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and that He had said these things to her.

Jesus among His Disciples

¹⁹Now when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were ^[b]shut where the disciples were together due to ^(O)fear of the ^[c]Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and *said to them, “^(P)Peace be to you.” ²⁰And when He had said this, ^(Q)He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then ^(R)rejoiced when they saw the Lord. ²¹So Jesus said to them again, “^(S)Peace be to you; ^(T)just as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” ²²And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. ^23(U)If you forgive the sins of any, their sins ^[d]have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”

²⁴But ^(V)Thomas, one of ^(W)the twelve, who was called ^[e](X)Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in ^(Y)His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, ^(Z)I will not believe.”

^26[f]Eight days later His disciples were again inside, and Thomas was with them. Jesus *came, the doors having been ^[g]shut, and stood in their midst and said, “^(AA)Peace be to you.” ²⁷Then He *said to Thomas, “^(AB)Place your finger here, and see My hands; and take your hand and put it into My side; and do not continue in disbelief, but be a believer.” ²⁸Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” ²⁹Jesus *said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you now believed? ^(AC)Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”

Mary Magdalene Sees the Risen Lord

^11(A)But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. ¹²And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. ¹³Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”

She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.”

^14(B)Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and ^(C)did not know that it was Jesus. ¹⁵Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”

She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”

¹⁶Jesus said to her, ^(D)“Mary!”

She turned and said to ^[a]Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).

¹⁷Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ^(E)ascended to My Father; but go to ^(F)My brethren and say to them, ^(G)‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to ^(H)My God and your God.’ ”

^18(I)Mary Magdalene came and told the ^[b]disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.

The Apostles Commissioned^(J)

^19(K)Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were ^[c]assembled, for ^(L)fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ^(M)“Peace be with you.” ²⁰When He had said this, He ^(N)showed them His hands and His side. ^(O)Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

²¹So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! ^(P)As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” ²²And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. ^23(Q)If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Seeing and Believing

²⁴Now Thomas, ^(R)called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.”

So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

²⁶And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” ²⁷Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and ^(S)reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be ^(T)unbelieving, but believing.”

²⁸And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

²⁹Jesus said to him, ^[d]“Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. ^(U)Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
