The thing about the aces in Season 1 was exactly that: they were used to a wholly different time and style. Everything was slow and calm, everything was going as it had for decades untold. The Union had its flags and showboated about, the AEU quietly made buckets of MS and sold them to anyone that could pay, and the HRL did anything and everything in its power to protect 'the nation', even when it pushed the bounds of human rights. Patrick was a 'great ace', unbeaten in war games. Graham had his platoon. Sergei and Soma were goosestepping in space. Everything was grounded, everything was ordinary.
